REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative
The Real Estate Industry is Under Attack
- Eliminating the Mortgage Interest Deduction
- Mandating a 20% down payment to be eligible for a Qualified Residential Mortgage
- Dismantling the secondary mortgage market by shutting down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with no viable replacement
- Increasing taxes and fees on real property ownership
- Requiring water and energy efficiency retrofits at the time of sale
From the U.S. Capitol to the Gold Dome to cities and counties throughout Georgia, forces on both ends of the political spectrum are proposing sweeping changes, like those listed above, that undermine property rights, erode property values, and threaten the American dream of homeownership.
Adding fuel to the fire, a recent Supreme Court decision now allows these special interest groups to spend vast sums of previously prohibited funds to impact the outcome of elections. As REALTORS®, we too must raise our level of political involvement. By taking action now, our voice and influence will remain strong... and so will your bottom line.
Our response will be powerful
In May, the NAR Board of Directors voted to create the REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative and agreed to fund it through a dedicated dues increase of $40 per member, beginning in 2012. The initiative will make REALTORS® one of the most powerful advocacy groups in the country.
One-third of the funds for the initiative will be used by NAR to improve our grassroots programs and involvement, as well as to expand the use of independent expenditure campaigns that help elect REALTOR® Party champions to Congress.
The other two-thirds of this initiative will provide additional support to state and local boards that will be used to help groom and elect REALTOR® Party champions, pass local and state referendum items, and engage the public in the debate on issues affecting our industry.
United we stand
As the only organization speaking on behalf of America’s home owners and everyone in our industry, REALTORS® must remain strong and influential at all levels of government. Your continued involvement and membership is critical. Find out more about the REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative at www.realtoractioncenter.com.
